has to do with audio? probably burried in audio something. I've an idea. how do you know you have it? does it show up in a context menu or is it sitting somewhere and won't go away no matter what you do? if the latter, try vo-shift-m on it and see if you get something that will allow you to distroy it.

I just can't get rid of 1 app now. It's a preferences pane and it's not in libraries prefpanes or system libraries prefpanes... anymore places where these things live?

all of the account process is accessible but it can be a bit daunting. before you set up an account, you need to make sure is set to speak at login so you'll need to do that first and it is done right there in the same (accounts) preferences as setting up a new account is.

This is the kind of thing best done via skype or landline.

Oh ok, I get it now. Still sounds like a ton of work though and I'm just going to clean install it. If I did try making an account, is that all accessible and will VO talk at login?

When you setup a new account, it will give you the basics. If it is an admin account, you can then go through and comb out all the junk. if you try to do this from an account that is tied to some of the junk, it gets tough to do. believe me, upgrading is so much better and worth it.

How will deleting accounts clean my drive? I don't want to delete user files, just extra programs that don't work, I don't like, or that installed themselves into system prefs without my permission or just plain aren't accessible. I've got a disc image loading at startup and all that kind of nonsense. Clean install. Yes, I have a Windows background. smile

as long as you can do a selective backup, that will be fine. otherwise, you will be right back where you started. If you look really hard, you can find and kill just about anything that you don't want/need.

here's an idea, create a new admin account and delete the other one and see what is left after that. make sure you fix the mail and such first before deleting the other account though. I can free up almost all of the space on my drive when necessary with no isues except of course putting everything back. I did this for an archive and install once.

I don't know if it is for you, but for me it will be as I have demo programs that I never really got rid of and such lying around not to mention a Skype install dmg that loads at startup but won't actually let me use skype so I am just going to backup and whack everything but I am afraid to do this because I don't trust backups.

Are people noticing any differences between upgrading and a clean install of snow leopard? I did the upgrade but if I wanted to try a clean install now, I could update superduper and do a backup and then try the clean install. Just wondering if the experiment is really a good use of my time or not.
