It scans to pdf. Once you have the doc in pdf, you can use preview and from preview, you can pop it into text edit.

I should also mention that as visiovoice will convert pdf to audio, if you aren't wanting a text or braille copy you can convert the pdf to audio if the spdf turns out reasonably accurate.
