Hello Keith,
Is there another solution short of turning off auto-save? This is an
important feature to ensure some recoverability should the system
crash
while creating a document. Don't we want to avoid simply turning off
potentially important or useful features?

This happened to me the other day,
It is the auto save function in Textedit.
To turn it off, do this.
In textedit menus, find preferences, choose the open save tab, VO
keys-
right arrow to, autosave button, use the down arrow to make it
active and
choose never.

I have a Text Edit document that keeps flashing up every 20 minutes
and sometimes more frequently. It used to say "item replace 0

selected."
Now it states the name of the document. It's called Contacts.rTF.
When
that file flashes my cursor loses focus. It will say the name of

whether I am using the computer or not. It doesn't matter whether
the file
is open or not. It is in the doc though,. Could that be the
problem? I'm a new Mac user so I don't know how to remove it from
the doc, but my husband can. I'm running SL on a Mac Mini. This
thing is driving me crazy so any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.
