[macvoiceover] Re: Speech rate in Applications

Well, there's a method I call overdrive that allows you to speed the voices beyond their designed limits. I.E. more than 100%, but it's really a bug, and isn't supported by apple, and is likely to be fixed at some point or other, so I'd not grow to depend on it.
But, basically what you do, is go into the voice settings.
Set the slider to something less than 100 percent, then use the vo command (command-option-ctrl-up arrow) to max the rate to 100 percent. Then, move the slider again back to 100%, and the speech rate will be overclocked to more than it's designed 100% rate. Again, this isn't supported by apple, nor do I recommend doing this for normal everyday use, there's (presumably) a reason apple set the max speed of the voices where they did.
Anyway, enjoy.
(and, don't tell anyone I always overclock fred myself, so don't feel bad that you think it's too slow)
:-)

Hi Everyone
Does anyone know if there's a way to speed up the system voices beyond what you can set in system preferences? e.g. setting the slider all the way to the right, at 100%, doesn't make the voices speak as fast as they can, or even close. Try this with Fred to see an example of what I mean. I know the voices can speak much faster than this, as I can set very high speeds not only with Voiceover, but with embedded tts commands in text. Is there any way to expand the range of the tts manager so I can take advantage of these faster rates?

thanks
