[macvoiceover] Smart Playlist Criteria

Hi Everyone,

This morning, I was trying to create a playlist for my collection of Leonard Bernstein classical recordings as a conductor and lecturer. I also have a number of recordings in which Bernstein is the composer but are not classical in the traditional sense but, rather, recordings like "West Side Story" and "Candide" (beautiful in their own right) which are categorized under "Sound track" cause a problem.

If I leave out Bernstein as a composer, I lose his more "serious" work; if I filter out all where genre contains sound track, and, to get my first three criteria, I have the "Any" of the rules to add to the playlist, I get thousands of songs that do not fall under sound track.

What I want is album contains Bernstein OR composer contains bernstein or artist contains Bernstein AND genre doesn't contain sound track. From my view of the smart playlist dialogue, one can choose to have all criteria be an "or" condition (any of the rules comply) or an "and" condition (all of the criteria applies) but no way to mix and and or to set the filter criteria.

Does anyone know how to do a "if any of the top three rules are true then look at the fourth rule but, otherwise, ignore rule four?"

For now, if I set up my song list by album, it's pretty easy to navigate around the sound tracks but I am a picky SOB and want everything to work exactly as I want it to or I'll stomp off to my room and mutter profanity about Steve Jobs <laugh>.

Happy Hacking,
cdh
