Hi all,
Well, after fighting with scanner troubles after clean installing Lion I
finally got it solved. I had been using VuScan 8.6 and Read Iris 11.6 and both
worked well in Lion when I first installed Lion in July, probably because I
didn't do a clean install.
I ended up having to purchase Read Iris 12.0.6 and VuScan 9. I tried ABBYY
Fine Reader Express, but it wouldn't recognize my Canon LiDE25 scanner, and,
Canon doesn't have drivers for Lion for this scanner yet.
I had tried Read Iris 12 a couple of years ago, and found the OCR results much
inferior to Read Iris 11.6, but, I am delighted to report that the newer
version of Read Iris 12 has greatly improved this… works as well as RI 11.6, in
my opinion. In RI 11.6, all I had to do was press Command R to recognize the
image and put the OCR results in Text Edit. I missed this keystroke in RI 12,
but, fortunately I stumbled across a keystroke that works in RI 12… command S.
So, I am now back to happily scanning the way I did in Snow Leopard, and, for a
short time, in Lion!
Hope this will be helpful to some.
Now, the only thing left to do is to try to get my $104 back from Apple for the
purchase of ABBYY! :)
