[macvoiceover] Office and VO

Hi

Just to introduce myself, I've been working with computers since 1977, when
I built an RS-232 keyboard from a RadioShack kit. And I've been working with
Macs since I was selling them at an Apple dealer in 1985. I currently have a
home LAN consisting of a G5 Quad, a Beige G3 Desktop, two homebuilt PC's and
a MythDora box that'll be wireless.

I'm trying to get my mother-in-law going with Voiceover - she has RP and is
slowly getting worse. She relies on Entourage on a G4 Mac Mini to keep in
touch with her online community.

I support her using Timbuktu - I'm in the SF Bay area and she's in Ohio - it
works much better than trying to use just the phone.

So Voiceover doesn't appear to work with Office Applications like Word or
Entourage. Based on what I've found on the net, it's a known problem.

I've been showing her how to copy all the text from a an email into a
textedit document, where Voiceover works fine. I'm going to explore the
possibility of shifting her over to Apple Mail or Eudora, assuming those
work fine, but I wanted to see how others have worked through this problem.

And I'd especially like to hear any helpful advice about using Voiceover and
Speech Recognition together, if there is any to be heard.
