If things are really messed up, you may have to do the archive and install
with the box unchecked for preserving network settings and users, etc.
Otherwise, if the problem persists, a total reinstall should fix it unless
there's an actual hardware problem. And if it's a hardware problem, it's
probably headed for repair.
