[macvoiceover] OT, our daughters laptop.

Hi folks,
Our daughter brought her MacBook back from; college and none of the shutdown functions work, they just cause the computer to restart.
And, when you close the lid, it does not stay in the sleep mode, you can hear the computer making its waking up sound with the lid closed. 

Any ideas?
