[macvoiceover] OT Scales

This doesn't really have anything to do with VoiceOver but I thought some of you might be interested in it. A blind harpist came to me with a problem. She needed a way to tune the instrument which did not depend on sight as most inexpensive electronic tuning tools do. There are electronic tuning tools for the blind but they are quite expensive. Pianos are not always available and are not always in tune. A good set of tuning forks will run you a couple of hundred dollars and you can't use them at the same time you tune the harp, as you need both hands to do the tuning.

Here is what I did. Using Audacity I produced a full range of notes from C4 to C5 each two minutes in length and saved them as WAV files. I then took those .wav files and moved them into itunes and named the tracks 1C4, 2D4 and so on arranging them in order. I then burned a CD in iTunes. The harpist can now take the CD and any portable CD player and earphones, she uses only one in a single ear and play each track with in this case is a single note. She can pause the player and then start it up again while tuning.

This CD provides her with a full scale of perfect pitches at low cost for tuning her instrument.

You can download the CD at http://w3.wmcnet.org/scale/scale.zip

I hope others find this useful.
