Yes, When the install begins, you will need to bring it up with command-f5 or, FN-command-f5. It takes a long time to respond and the volume may be low and the rate slow, but, it does speak during install.

So is VO supposed to continue talking throughout the install?

Hi Genny,

You should be able to get the Voice up to tell you whats going on. It
is so important to get the voice up, because you may have a bad disk.
It is rare, but, it does happen.

Hi again. Each time I try to install Leopard the machine sounds
like it's
working and installing Lepoard, and then after 15-30 mins it goes to
sleep,
if I press enter, it comes back up and does the same thing. I tried
turning
off the computer and ejecting the disk when the machine restarts,
and when I
take the DVD out, my previous settings come up. VO starts speaking
like I
never installed anything. Same thing when I press "c" and start the
computer. Any thoughts? Could there be a prompt somewhere in there
that
I’m missing?
Thanks so much.

What kind of machine are you using? Did you watched the entire
installation procedure and get a Restart button at the end of the
process? Did any music play after the Restart?Marshall

you could eject the disk by holding down the power button till the

this would result most likely in a message to insert the disc.
please try
as hard as you can to get speech going. I thought you said that
when you
start the system, it boots and then stops. if the dvd is in there,
it will
do that and continue or restart the install.

one thing that happens for a while after you start the install by
selecting
the language is the dvd is checked for errors, this process is
accessible to
vo.

How long should it take to install? Also, I can't eject the
dvd...does this
mean it's doing something?

sounds like you got the blue screen of death. the only thing I
know of to
do in this case is to do an erace install by putting in the dvd,
restarting
the system whilest holding down the c key and pressing command-f5
(add fn if

need be) after the spinning stops and press enter to accept the
default
language and so on.
