Terminal is already being used for compilations and an editor was requested that could work in that environment. Specifically, emacs has additional support for many programming languages the more current version of emacs the more programming languages and emacs knows about gcc and associated commands. It's actually possible to do compiles from inside of emacs with gcc once you learn the necessary emacs keystrokes. On Tue, 4 Jan 2011, covici@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote:

If you use emacs, you will be in terminal, which is problematic with vo,
but it sort of works.

yes, just after you start emacs up type control-h then type t. You'll
be put into the interactive tutorial Richard Stallman the creator of
emacs wrote for emacs. That will get your feet on the ground and show
you where other things are you'll need later. On Tue, 4 Jan 2011, Tim

Thanks. If I go down the Emacs route, are there any tutorials that you
could recommend, please?

Best wishes.

You already have ex, you could download and install emacs, and perhaps you
also have ed. If you must have wysiwyg you can run ex as vi or perhaps
vim or perhaps elvis. On Tue, 4 Jan 2011, Tim Burgess wrote:

Hi,

Can anybody offer any advice as to a simple text editor suitable for
programming on the Mac that's friendly with VO? I'm using GCC from the
command line, rather than get bogged down in Xcode, so I just need
something
that won't expand tabs to spaces, etc..

Thanks in advance.

Best wishes.
