Ladies and GEntlemen, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages: I offer
the following thoughts. WE are now living in an age where there is
much choice in the land of accessibility. Because of the Internet
there is also the ability to explore and discuss these choices. The
joy of mailing lists is that one can devote such a list to a
specific topic enabling an individual to pick a list of interest
knowing that rather then having there in-box filled with messages
that perhaps touch on the topic of there choosing but discuss a wide
variety of subjects pertaining to this topic but not directly
discussing the subject of the list which can really frustrate a
person they would have the opportunity to interact with a group of
people specifically desiring to utilize a particular piece of
software or discuss a particular item of interest. There are many
lists available that provide information about anything from the
ingredients that go in to making a great meatball to a discussion of
the latest technology for doing podcasts. People subscribe to these
lists to discuss these specific things. This list happens to have
chosen to discuss using applications on the Mac with VoiceOver. As
was pointed out by a poster questions regarding which virtual
program is accessible to VoiceOver are appropriate here however
there are lists designed specifically for windows access issues as
well as information on which screen readers work best with what. IN
the land of the Mac there is only one screen reader and this list
exists to discuss that particular component of the Mac operating
system. All this to say is that it is very important to have a
place for people to discuss VoiceOver accessibility and only that
and not have to muddle through the off topic traffic. AS an
adaptive technology instructor I get questions on a daily basis
asking where to find information on Voiceover and what applications
will work with it. I direct them to this list knowing that they will
be able to obtain the information they seek as well as correspond
with individuals doing the same things as they are. Let's keep this
list true to it's name and discuss VoiceOver and how it can benefit
those who seek an alternative to Other operating systems. It is no
longer a matter of who has the better operating system but now a
matter of people making an informed decision on what computer to
purchase and what will meet there needs.
