Jane,
Thanks for the info! I downloaded the program, last night, and am
using it right now! I found the free version under their "Old
Versions" link, and I downloaded V. 2.2.
The preview function is great, but, even with this program, I still
can't use VO's Attributes command, (VO Keys-T), to see what
attributes links, headings, text, etc, have. The program is
accessible, though, and that's great!
Thanks!

I like it because as soon as I am done coding, I can switch to
another window within the program and see how it would look in
Safari. This saves me from having to load the file into Safari,
close it out, edit it, and so on. With sSubethaaEdit,, I can
quickly check any changes tghat are made by refreshing the wWeb
Preview window. I love this featurre; it made coding my final HTML
project for my Computer Science 101 class easier. I only got a C

Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: Introduction
Hi John!
Thanks for the welcome!
I say what I do, mainly because, for one thing, it was looking as
though iTunes would *never* be accessible. Also, every time
Software Update tells me there's ann OS update, I'm expecting to
see substantive changes to VoiceOver i.e. being able to see the
attributes of things on web pages, new reading commands in
VoiceOver, programs, such as Safari not being "Busy" so much, and
the like - and they just aren't there. VoiceOver just doesn't
seem to be getting the updates/features that JAWS is/does. Maybe
things are changing, but sometimes, its really hard to tell.
I was elated to see that iTunes is finally, to a greater extent,
VoiceOver-friendly, although it still needs work - i.e. the Music
Store, the "Add to Library" dialog, etc. I notice there are
still many things in the OS which aren't accessible, and I wish
programs like Toast were accessible, as I miss being able to burn
CDs, etc, with the freedom, and ease, I had under OS 9.2.2! I
did find a program, called "Burn", which appears to be totally
accessible, and it gets the basic job done!
As to spreadsheets, I wish either Quicken, or Money Dance would
be accessible. I also believe there's an app, called Money-
Minder, which could be more accessible, too. I also wouldn't
mind an accessible HTML editor, FTP client, Sound-editor, backup
utility, etc. Any ideas?
Web Hosting: I checked out Go Daddy, and discovered that its not
realy friendly to VoiceOver. I tried arrowing through the page,
and lots of it gets skipped! I have my own server, and would
really like to put my site there - no popup ads to worry about,
no monthly fees, etc. Just need an ISP that'll allow setting it
up. Don't think the one here does.
Well, that's about it. I'm sure I'll think of something else - I
always do! Til then, take care!
Regardes,
Ron
Ron, just want to assure you that voiceover is being taken
exremely seriously especially by Apple. Good things are
happening. ITunes is becoming usable and taht's just a start.
The biggest problem I se is no one has come up with an accessible
spreadsheet yet. mariner software is working on making there
software Vo compatible but it's slow. I am sure it will happne
though. Welcome and enjoy.

I think Apple did a wonderful job, for a first-run screen

quite lacking. My hope is, that Apple will make substantive
changes to VoiceOver, over the years. I know this has been a
big concern of blind Windows users, contemplating switching to
Macs. They're worried that Apple doesn't have the commitment to
continue developing VoiceOver. My concern is that, plus that
not enough developers are taking VoiceOver seriously (i.e. Apple
with iTunes, Roxio wwith Toast, etc).
I've been working, on and off, over the last couple of years, on
a website, dedicated entirely to VoiceOver, and the VoiceOver

Tentatively, I'm calling it VC-Talk - VoiceOver-Community Talk,
but I wasn't sure if I should use that, or pick something

should be a '.com', '.org', '.net', or '.info', but I'm leaning
toward the latter. The primary objective of this site will be
to list all the known accessible applications, allow users to
submit info on new apps they've found, and provide all VoiceOver-
related resources, & links. The site also has an
"Acknowledgements" page, where I'd like to list all persons/

being able to host the site on my own server, a Blueberry, 333

mail & FTP server - just no way, at this time, to access it from
the outside world!
I should get back to working on it, find a place to host it,

us VoiceOver users, and to those PC users, wishing to make the

Haven't decided what to formally call it. Tentatively, I'm calling it VC-Talk - VoiceOver- Community Talk, but I wasn't sure if I should use that, or pick something different. Also, haven't decided on whether, or not, the site should be a '.com', '.org', '.net', or '.info', but I'm leaning toward the latter. The primary objective of this site will be to list all the known accessible applications, allow users to submit info on new apps they've found, and provide all VoiceOver-related resources, & links. The site also has an "Acknowledgements" page, where I'd like to list all persons/groups, who contributed to the development of VoiceOver - Developers, persons who participated in the Spoken Interface Preview, and the like. My biggest problem, right now, is not being able to host the site on my own server, a Blueberry, 333 MHz iMac G3. I have all the CGI scripts I need, plus a web, mail & FTP server - just no way, at this time, to access it from the outside world!I should get back to working on it, find a place to host it, etc, as I feel that it would be a valuable resource to all of us VoiceOver users, and to those PC users, wishing to make the switch to a Mac. Any suggestions for a name, or a Mac- friendly, preferably free hosting provider, etc, would be greatly appreciated! Also, I'm always on the lookout for any VoiceOver- compliant applications, that I don't already know about.Thank you for taking the time to read this message, and I look forward to participating in the discussions on this list, and contributing, what I can, to helping others get the most out of VoiceOver, and their Macs! I'm sure, along the way, I'll learn a thing, or three! LOL :-)Take care! Ron J. Ron Johnson | AKA Ganahee"For millions of years, mankind lived, just like the animals.
