That's what I'm thinking... that I'm still in the install window.. maybe it's wanting my serial number? I never was asked for that during what i thought was the install. I can't find anywhere to enter a serial number though. <annoyed look>
Is there a way to turn on the equivalent of a "Jaws" cursor to investigate the window further? I realize that I might, indeed, get some cursers for mentioning the "J" word. <grin>

I'm using a Canon LiDE 25. You said you were using Read Iris on it's own? What version of Read Iris are you using? I'm using version 11.6 ESD, butI'm not sure it installed properly... I don't get any menu items other than an option to quit, to show or hide Read Iris, an "about installer", and that's it. No settings or anything.
In the Read Iris window, when it first opens, all I get is a go back button, which is dimmed, and a continue button. When I click the continue button, I can choose the language, save, print, go back, and then there's a continue button that's dimmed. Do you know what the "ESD" means in the version number? 

Any ideas?

Last night I found out that you can set the clock to announce the time at given intervals. I set mine to announce the time every 15 minutes, and I was able to watch the hours tick away as I tried to set up my scanner! <grin>
Then, this morning as I was reading the VO getting started PDF file, I found out that as I'm reading the document, if I press the CTRL key to stop reading, and go and get another cup of coffee, when I come back, all I need to do is press the CTRL key again, and VO starts reading right where it left off, within a word or two! Absolutely amazing! And VO is reading this PDF a lot better than Jaws did in Acrobat!
One thing I haven't come across yet, is there a keystroke to have the time announced?
