HI Dave, That's the problem, I don't see any edit field or buttons when I press command+k as it seems to do its search straight away. I know they are there as in the brief time when finder says "ready" I have tabbed and managed to land on them before it starts doing its thing again. But I have noticed that if I type the address straight away after pressing command+k and I type the correct address, it comes up no probs. So you have just confirmed what I noticed that voice-over is focused on the edit field on the launch of command+k. It's just funny that on my mac mini, voice-over isn't speaking it. But I'm not worried now that you have given me that quit command. -----Original Message----- From: macvoiceover-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:macvoiceover-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of David Poehlman Sent: Wednesday, 23 April 2008 11:03 PM To: macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: How to mount a Windows shared folder on your Mac Dave, if you type in a rong address, things will deffinitely slow to a crawl till they get sorted out. you can quite the process with command-option-escape and force quite the process. In this case it means relaunching the finder. When I press command-k, it shows me the address I last typed in but doesn't try to connect to it. Command-k should just bring up the dialogue tha allows you to choose the network. there is however a sort button, you might try playing with that and see if you can get this sorted no pun intended. you can also try the remove button. ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Truong" <bnfiles@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <macvoiceover@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 8:55 AM Subject: [macvoiceover] Re: How to mount a Windows shared folder on your Mac HI Dave, That's brilliant. Do you know how I can fix the problem that seems to be happening with my Mac Mini and I am assuming it is at my end as no one I have spoken seems to have experienced this problem where when I type command+k to connect to a server, Voice-over seems to not speak for a while and when I use the navigational keys to see what is happening, I just hear voice-over say "busy" and I can't type anything. Then periodically it'll say "ready" then go back to being busy almost immediately. When it is doing this, no matter what I press - tab arrows, nothing happens. It is like it is doing what it is suppose to do and connecting to a server but it seems like it just takes ages to do it. If I'm lucky it'll connect after a while but the real problem seems to happen when I in the rare occasions I get the edit field, type in a wrong address. This wouldn't be worrying me so much if there was an option for leopard to not automatically connect to the last address on the press of command+k. In other words if there is a way to stop this behaviour and let me connect manually, that'd be real cool. I must say that since the behaviour of how leopard shows characters in edit fields has been explained, I'm really enjoying the mac a little more. Thanks for any help on the above. They left out a few things and made it harder than it actually is<g> Here's how it is done I do it all the time because I'm constantly moving and adding things to my network. 1> very very important, make sure you have full share on the pc(s) so that it/they can be seen by the network or restricted share for just the folder you want to share. 2> on your Mac(s), in system prefs, sharing, make sure file sharing is set up. This involves checking its checkbox and making sure your account is enabled for windows sharing and in options, click the types of sharing you want to do like ftp, smb and afp. 3> from the desktop, click command-k to open your network and tab to and punch browse. This will show you a list of all available items that the Mac can find. Alternatively, if you have it handy or can find it, type: smb://your.ip.info which is your pc's ip address like 192.168.1.12 4> if you chose browse, Select your poison from that list and press enter. if you typed in an ip, you should see the name of your pc 5> press enter and you will be presented with a list of shares with which you can connect. 6> click your chosen share and if prompted, type in the pc user id and password If your pc has no user accounts, this will be your mac id and password. 7> once connected, your share will be mounted on the desktop. To keep it connected when you start your Mac, create an alias for it.
