Hi. the ipod has no recording capabilities built in. I don't make playlists with mine, if I need a playlist I make it in itunes and then sink it. Although I don't think it's too hard to make a playlist in the ipod I've just never done it. It's very easy to turn on and off shuffling. the menus don't wrap around so there is no continuation of menus. When you reach the end it simply stops clicking.

hi jacob,
I can't speak about specific troubles that I had with the ipod because I haven't it never used.
This is because of the inaccessible look...
but, as I understand well, I can believe that it's possible to play music if you know the structure but, so far as I know , you can not easily make a playlist , switch settings like shuffle or repeat, recording with the ipod...
just what I think, perhaps I am wrong...

And also, if menu's have no begin or end, you can scroll further and further, this will be very difficult to remind where you was in the menustructure.
On the mac , you can hear this with a audio sign.

Hi William
The keys on iPods haven't been touch-sensitive for a while now, a few years at least. Aside from the iPod touch, which is a full multi-touch interface and the shuffle, which as I understand it uses a simple button-based interface, most iPod models use a click- wheel. This is a wheel which you slide your finger around to move, and has buttons integrated into certain points you can press-- something you can feel perfectly well and learn how to operate. Accessing it is similar to accessing a lot of consumer electronics these days, you have to learn its layout. The iPod clicks, and does not wrap around, so learning the menus isn't that hard. Another thing that makes it easy to navigate is that even though it doesn't talk, the music library on your iPod is organized just as your library is in iTunes. So if you know your music library well, you can quickly find what you want once you get the hang of operating it. This is, in fact, the exact purpose for creating the guide, so that those who are curious and would like to learn to operate an iPod can do so without having to fumble through the menues their first time in using it as I did. At any rate, I'll start work on the basic guides, as I can see there's some interest in this.

ok, you can use it as storage device, I agree but, you can not handle the functions and menus to play music, I think.
Is this right?

To use it only as storrage-device, it like me a litle bit expensive

and, if it doesn't talk and you can not feel the keys on the traditional ipod, on which way is it accessible?

I am very curious

IPod is usable, it just doesn't talk. It can be loaded accessibly as well.
There is a podcast on it at:
http://www.screenlessswitchers.com but I don't think anyone has actually
done an archived demo.

sorry but what is the sence for such guide?
Because, so far as I know, the traditional Ipod is totally inaccessible for
blind people?
or not?

Sounds neat, and like a good idea.

Hi Keith
Since you've brought up the subject of guides, would anyone like a series of guides dealing with the iPod? Basic things such as how to work it, how to set it up properly with iTunes and Voiceover, etc, as well as some slightly more advanced topics such as the settings menus, and building
good-quality iPod format audio books? ? I could put them up on
icanworkthisthing.com and I'll make them if anyone wants them. The ones I'd make would be for the iPod Classic 80gb as that's what I have, but would probably work for the Video and Nanos as well for the most part. These guides would not deal with Rockbox, but rather the genuine iPod
firmware.

Anyone interested in such a thing?

Hi folks,

I know that some of you have special interest in a peace of software,
so, how about writing a small how-to-guide on how to work it.

Something like this.

1 Open up a new file in your word processer and write it all down.
2 after you have a way to do it, check your method,
3 Check your method.
4 paist it in to an e-mail and send it to the list.
Who knows, you mite want your guide to be a part of the growing list of
list and guides at,
www.icanworkthisthing.com
under
MAC with Voiceover.

Thanks, this will be fun for all of us.
