Keith,
I didn't get to answering your questions about Adium the other day.
Sorry!
Adium will not do IRC, and the "Chat Transcripts Viewer" is quite
easy to use!
If you ever miss an IM from someone, assuming you don't already have
the viewer open, press the "Transcripts" button, on the toolbar, of
that person's IM window. The viewer will open, and their chat text
should be displayed. If not, move the VO Cursor, til you hear
"Table", interract with it, and arrow up, or down, til you hear their
screen name (should be at the top, or near the top, of the list, for
the most recent IM session), then stop interracting with it, arrow
right to the "text", interract with that, go to the last item, and
arrow back up to hear the IM(s) you've missed.
If you are in the habit of not closing IM windows, after chatting,
as I often do, you really don't need to close the viewer - just need
to select their name, in the table, then read the text. If you do
close chat windows, each time a chat ends, though, you really should
close the viewer, go to their window, press the "Transcript" button,
select their name in the table, then, read the text. I've found, not
doing things this way, you can't read the most recent IM someone
sends you.
I know this is a real pain-in-the-butt solution, but it allows you
to read those missed messages!
HTH!

Hi everyone!
Fire is a good client, and I have used it for the better part of
the last two years. I'm no longer using it, as it is no longer in
development - in fact, a couple of the developers from the Fire
team, jumped ship, and are now working to develop Adium X.
Adium X is a multi-protocol IM client, which supports AIM, MSN,
Yahoo!, ICQ, and several others, including some Fire didn't
support. It has a number of accessibility issues, but I think the
developers are committed to fixing these. I say this because,
when I went to http://www.versiontracker.com/, did a search for
Adium, then clicked on its link, under "What's New In This
Version", I actually noticed reference to VO (when I initially
downloaded the previous version, but not this one)! Still, it had
been mentioned, and that's the first time I'd *ever* seen that on
the info about a program on VersionTracker!
Unlike Fire, Adium will speak the IMs as you receive them, (this
needs to be set up, in preferences, first), but if you miss one,
you'll need to use the "Chat Transcripts Viewer" to read it.
Also, you may need some assistance setting up the events, under
the "Events" tab, in preferences, as its an outline, and not
totally accessible. That said, Adium works quite well, and I'd at
least give it a try!
I'd also strongly recommend sending the Adium team feedback, as I
really do believe these folks are committed to making Adium as
accessible as possible!
HTH?

that you perhaps didn't know that you can set up an MSN account

I appreciate that you may not realize this, but actually it is
possible
to use MSN on the Mac via IChat. You can do this by creating a
Jabba
account and using that account to connect to the MSN service.

I'd correct you here. Thanks.
