[macvoiceover] Re: Hi

Ron,

2 questions,
1: can you use IRC with this program?
2: How hard is it to use the "chat transcripts viewer"?

Thanks.

Hi everyone!

Fire is a good client, and I have used it for the better part of the last two years. I'm no longer using it, as it is no longer in development - in fact, a couple of the developers from the Fire team, jumped ship, and are now working to develop Adium X.

Adium X is a multi-protocol IM client, which supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, ICQ, and several others, including some Fire didn't support. It has a number of accessibility issues, but I think the developers are committed to fixing these. I say this because, when I went to http://www.versiontracker.com/, did a search for Adium, then clicked on its link, under "What's New In This Version", I actually noticed reference to VO (when I initially downloaded the previous version, but not this one)! Still, it had been mentioned, and that's the first time I'd *ever* seen that on the info about a program on VersionTracker!

Unlike Fire, Adium will speak the IMs as you receive them, (this needs to be set up, in preferences, first), but if you miss one, you'll need to use the "Chat Transcripts Viewer" to read it. Also, you may need some assistance setting up the events, under the "Events" tab, in preferences, as its an outline, and not totally accessible. That said, Adium works quite well, and I'd at least give it a try!

I'd also strongly recommend sending the Adium team feedback, as I really do believe these folks are committed to making Adium as accessible as possible!

HTH?

David, Hannah's friend Chris again.
I had a thought about what you wrote yesterday about MSN being bearly usable on the Mac; do you mean the programme MSN Messenger for Mac? In
that case, then yes I'd agree with you, but my initial thoughts were
that you perhaps didn't know that you can set up an MSN account using
IChat, but obviously I was proved wrong.

David, this is Hannah's friend Chris here.
I appreciate that you may not realize this, but actually it is possible to use MSN on the Mac via IChat. You can do this by creating a Jabba account and using that account to connect to the MSN service. Thought
I'd correct you here. Thanks.
