You can also get your hd size by highlighting it in the finder, then stop interacting with the scroll area where the disks are listed, move down, and you'll see the size of the hd (faster and less keystrokes than bringing up info and hunting down the size)

Same with a file, focus on it, press command-i and you will see the same window except it is for the file you have selected.
