Subject: MacBook Battery Update 1.4 to improve battery lifetime

Hi all,

There's a recent (March 2009) firmware update, Battery Update 1.4, that
apparently isn't automatically getting picked up through the Software Updater.
It improves battery lifetimes in cases where the MacBook is shut down and not
used for some time. This is a particular issue for the new aluminum MacBooks
that appear to drain their batteries more quickly than other MacBooks when they
are shut down or in sleep mode for long periods of time. Check:

http://support.apple.com/downloads/Battery_Update_1_4

for the download link and first read the linked Apple support document on that
page to determine whether you should apply the update to your machine. This
battery firmware update does not apply to MacBook Pro or MacBook Air models,
but is for (black, white, and aluminum) MacBooks that meet the criteria. The
Apple support document tells you how to check the current firmware version,
serial number, and pack lot code for your MacBook battery to determine whether
the firmware update applies to you.

Cheers,

Esther
