Yeah, it's a little trickier with the old mac minis but it can be done. In fact, a few years ago I actually did an upgrade on a mac mini I've now given to somebody else - I think a change in dvd drive and ram by mail - the place actually sent out a box to pack it in if I recall and then it was picked up by UPS or Fed Ex and returned afterward the same way. At the time we didn't have an Apple store and it worked quite well; can't remember the name of the place right now but it was mac-something and they were authorized to do it. Now I could just take it to the Apple store; I just have to decide whether to spend the smaller amount of money now or hold it back and spend more for a new computer later. I just talked to the Apple store and they won't even give an estimate; one has to sign up for a genius bar appointment and take the computer in and have them look at it and give an estimate. I'll have to decide if I really am considering it seriously enough to take it in for the appointment so I didn't make an appointment. If/when I do go for an estimate, I'll let everybody know how much it was; Apple Care ran out on it in January.
