command-i for info on a folder gives you lots of info about the
folder (size, location, and so on) but nothing about how many files
or folders are located inside the target folder.
I'm guessing this could be fixed with a finder action that runs an
apple script, but I've not yet fiddled with finder actions, so don't
know enough about them to set it up. However, in terminal a simple
shell script could do the job quite nicely.
