If you want a compatible drive that won't take up a USB port go to
Macmall and do a search on LACIE.

Two recommendations follow.
1) find an external cd burner or better yet a dvd burner that's mac
compatible.
2) Phillips is a good brand. I can't remember the model on the
phillips I
have but it just plugs and plays well with the rest of the system.

Hey Chris,
You were asking about unsupported CD burners in Tiger? Well, I
have exactly the fix you need! It's a program called PatchBurn,
and what it does is to install "device profiles" into your system,
which allow programs, like iTunes, to see the burner, even though,
technically, it's not supported by Apple under OS X Tiger.
I have the version of the program which will run under Tiger, but
you might wanna check their website to see if there's an updated
version of it which will run under Tiger, just to ensure you're up-
to-date. Go to the following link: http://www.patchburn.de.

don't know the model. I do know it doesn't seem to be recognised
though. I'm wonderring if anyone knows of any specific brands or
even more models that are external u s b that would burn CD's that
I could get that would just be, plug it in, and go. no drivers
needed or at least, if they are, that would be a sinch to install.
I don't have a burner on the mac, and really would kill to add
one. I don't feel good enough to pop the thing opened and install
an internal burner. I know how to do it, but due to my disability,
I do not have the fine motor skills needed to do it.
So, if anyone has a suggestion, I'd appreciate it.
Remember, this is Tiger 10.4.11. I also have all the current
updates with none less.
Chris.
