There's a free app in the mac app store called virus barrier and it works well 
enough with voiceover although it has some annoying habits like announcing it's 
intentions while you are doing something and then you have to switch out of it 
to get back to your activity.
Still as I am retired and use my mac book for mainly recreational purposes it's 
good enough for me and I'm a tight wad!
