[macvoiceover] Echoing davids thoughts

Harry, (some thoughts to share with your friend).
David had some great thoughts here. 2 hours really isn't going to give you what you need. What I would suggest is asking if you can have the return fee waved so that you can really test voiceover. I live in NJ and the apple store in shorthills was more then accommodating. When I went to try voiceover they really didn't have a clue what to do with it. One of there Mac genius's took an hour or more with me and we did get it to do something's but not enough to convince me that it was worth the $1700 I would pay for the powerbook. I asked if they would wave the return fee and they gladly did this. They also helped me with setting up the machine. So. I guess my thought is perhaps with the sales folks focus on there strengths and what they can do for you and let us help you do the rest. There really great folks and seem to want to do there best. AS someone pointed out on the list there is so much for them to know and this is just another cog in the wheel. Adding to this silly story: after bringing the notebook home I tried M-S-Office and internet exploder the programs I was familiar with and they didn't work. I returned the unit a week later and the fee as they promised was waved. but wait, there's more. After getting on a Mac users list and starting to see what all of these Blind people were doing with the Mac it forced me to think out of the box a bit. The world doesn't revolve around exploder and office. I very sheepishly went back to the store and was greeted cheerfully by some of the folks to helped last time and asked to buy another Mac an assured them it would not be coming back. They simply did what they do best: got a machine out and assigned me a fellow to help me set it up and in an hour I was out of there quite happy. Since then I have never regretted this purchase and have great hopes for what is on the horizon. I have had the pleasure of teaching voiceover to a 10 year old who hasn't touched windows and loves her Mac using it for school work and recreation. I have also assisted in a conference locally presenting voiceover. So, If you can, buy one, take it home, and pepper us with questions. There is lots of material available. Talk soon and have a great day.
