Here is a list of features for MacOSX Daisy playback. I'm sure I'm missing some things here so iff you have any suggestions please let me know.

Features needed in a MacOS DAISY playback software

Essential features

1. Playback of all three version of Daisy (2.02, NIOS2002, NISO2005)

2. Playback of all the various subtypes (audio only, audio some text, audio full text, text only, etc.)

3. Full support for keypad and GUI navigation control (up/down level next/previous item, play/pause)

4. Display of text synced to playback when text is present. Could we do something like what Safari 3 does with its find command? might we use Safari to display the text?

5. Info about book, total time, time played, time remaining, etc.

6. Ability to handle media holding more than one book or one book held on several media.

7. Ability to handle "less than perfect" book with recovery from errors and continuation of reading.

8. Bookmarking.

9. Opening ncc.html, .opt file from a standard dialog

Nice Features

1. Naming of bookmarks

2. Audio and text bookmarks, these would be read or played in place and the reading of them could be turned off and on at uses request.

3. OS detection of DAISY media

4. Support for user keys from RFB&D, NLS and other vendors. You should be able to put a key file in a directory or enter the information in a dialog to have it take effect.

5. Some kind of bookshelf interface where you could go to a list of book you have loaded. It would tell you where in each book you were last at along with all the bookmarks and notes for each book and so on. Think of iTunes for books.
