Basically, you can run the bootcamp assistant telling it that you're installing 
windows xp or vista, and all that will do is to create a partition on your HD 
that you can install an other OS on. The thing is that depending on your model 
of mac some of the components won't work well with Ubuntu. On my macbook, for 
example, audio works fine but the trackpad doesn't seem to work at all, which 
really doesn't matter to me. You should also be careful with the nVidia cards 
on most macs because newer versions of ubuntu don't seem to like those too 
much. Really, just give it a try and see what happens...
