[macvoiceover] Re: Annoying problem with submenus

HI MIke!

Hey, glad I could be of help! <grin!> I installed my copy of SL on the afternoon of August 28th, and noticed the problem, shortly thereafter. Oddly enough, it was a sighted friend who discovered why VO was behaving in this way.

As to using VO-Command-F5, well, unless you've got your mouse cursor set to follow the VO cursor, I don't think drag & drop works, (well, at least it didn't for me, anyway), whether or not you use VO-Command- F5. There are, however, other situations where the mouse and VO cursors need to be in synch (i.e. when you want to set the Mood Message in Skype, and you need to have the mouse pointer focused on a specific image) so you can mouse-click on it.

BTW, if you ever wanna chat, my Skype Name is Ganahee.

Take care, and kindest regards back at you!

Ron, you are !awesome,! and my Mac experience is a much happier one.

I will most definitely write to Apple’s accessibility group and apprise them of my problem and tell them that this bug needs to be exterminated. By the way, thanks for the heads up regarding the need to use the VO-Command-F5 command if I want to drag and drop stuff.

Kindest regards, and you really earned your good deed for the day points for today!

Mike,

The problem you're having is exactly what happened to me, first Time I installed SL. What's happening is that you're the victim of a bug in SL's VoiceOver. It's a mouse cursor tracking issue.

To eliminate this annoyance, do the following:

            1. Launch the VoiceOver Utility.

2. Navigate to the "Navigation" section in the categories table.

3. Navigate to the mouse cursor popup menu and do a VO- Space on it. There are 3 options in this menu; "Ignores VO Cursor", "Follows VO Cursor" & "Moves VO Cursor". I'm guessing yours is set to "Follows VO Cursor". That's how mine was set, initially, as that's how I had it set under Leopard.

4. Set this option to either "Ignores VO Cursor", or "Moves VO Cursor", and you'll fix the problem.

Be aware that if you set it to either of these two options, you'll need to use VO-Command-F5 to route the VO Cursor to the mouse cursor in situations where they need to be in synch.

Also, from what I'm able to determine, VO's Drag & Drop functionality doesn't seem to work unless mouse cursor is set to "Follow VO Cursor".

Apple is aware of this issue, and several others, but, I'd strongly recommend writing to accessibility@xxxxxxxxx, and let them know you're having this issue. The more of us who do, the more pressing the need to squash this bug!

HTH?

Hi list members,

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, I have had problems with submenus automatically opening, a feature which I don’t want! I have been unable to locate an option to turn this off in the system preferences, but I just might have missed it.

Any help on turning off the feature (if it really is a feature) would be gratefully appreciated.

Mike
