As Sarah said, the steps are really based on where you are coming from with
the update. In other words, there is a difference between just upgrading from
an earlier OS and doing an actual clean install of an OS. There are various
podcasts out there and I have an audio tutorial I recently released that
touches on the various options one can face updating their system.

I back up via time machine then install. There is no step by step as each
person has a different way of doing everything. I use time machine and carbon
copy cloner for my back up solution.

Is there a step-bystep guide to backing up the OS and apps? I have remote
and localbackup of my data files but I’m not sure about the OS. My mac
originally had Mountain Lion . Thanks.

You should be good, what I would do is do a backup of your OS via what ever
method you use then update.
hope that helps a bit.

Hi Folks,
I have a late 2013 Mac running with Yosemite (10.10). What are your
thoughts about updating to 10.12? Are there any gotchas with regard to
accessibility still annoying enough to wait? I haven’t seen any traffic in
this regard for some time. And will my old Mac be up to the update? The
non-Mac apps I user are Vuscan and ABBY Fine Reader. I’d appreciate any
feedback. Most of you are more savvy about program issues than I could ever
dream to be.
Many Thanks in advance,
