Oh, ok. Yeah, I'd say it's more a preference than anything. I've found
that sometimes there are things however in your tool bars of apps that
aren't present always in your menu bar that you can reach with vo+M, or
ctrl+F2, your preference.

Barbara, one thing nice about the mac that makes them so awesome, is what
you just stated: preference and customization. When you get more familiar
with how OSX works, you're going to see that just because one person does x
thing y way, doesn't necessarily mean there is not a Z way as well to
perform the same task.

I'll give you a couple of examples.

1. Some people may find that after putting a CD in their drive, it's easier

to locate it on the desktop, then hit command+E. Others may find, provided
that their apple keyboard has one, which most do, that it's easier to just
hit the physical eject key.

Some users may find that hitting command+tab to cycle through open
applications is easier, where others may find the app chooser with vo+F1 to
be easier.

Some may find that going to the apple menu then to system prefs, then
interacting with the scroll area then choosing the button for the pref they
want to change is easier, where others may find it easier to go to systems
prefs in the doc, then press vo+shift+M on it, as this will give you a
context menyu with literally all the preferences right in front of you and
if you vo+space on them, it'll bring just that one payne into the
foreground.

The point is, there are many ways to do different things, and honestly I'll
be the first to tell you there is absolutely, I don't care what anyone tells

you regardless, there is absolutely no right or wrong way. You do what
feels most comfortable for you.

Be well, and happy holidays upcoming!

Chris.

I guess this is a preference thing because someone on the list suggested,
when I asked, to hide the tool bars. So I wanted to know about them since
I'm a new user and trying to learn the details of what I should and
shouldn't have on screen, what they do and don't do. thanks Barbara

For one thing, I almost never hide toolbars, bottom line, as sometimes they
can really come in useful. Barbara, I'm not sure I totally am
unsderstanding your question, nor why you want to hide them to start with.

Can you try to be a bit more specific?

Chris.

If a tool bar is a place where there are buttons to make selections and we
hide the tool bar, how does one know there are selections to be made? Thanks

Okay so if that is the case then when there is a forward button and a back

nore on this re tool bars. you can esily envoke them when you need them.
use vo and interact with the toolbar when you need it. otherwise, you don't
see it if you hide it when you tab and it makes for a less cluttered
experience.
