Hi thanks, I found http://www.icanworkthisthing.com and made adjustments suggested in the site's voiceover documentation. Safari speaks really well now as a result.

VO will not automatically read the entire web page, as a Windows screen reader can be configured to do. If you cannot navigate with VO keys on the page, you have to make some adjustments in Safari preferences to enable tab browsing and to have links highlighted with the tab key.
