mouse should ignore vo.
as to why the commanders are available, first, we are trying to get at the 
heart of your issue.  Second, they serve purposes which you will understand 
more clearly after you gain some experience with the mac os.  It is quite a bit 
different from windows although there are many things that seem similar.
