Don't know they might need the extra processer to work and therefore will
not work on the iphone4. Will be able to tell you later when I update.

yes, the 4s implementation will be different but they rolled out separately 
as an update to provide increased capability for existing devices.

ios 5 is supported by everything but everything from 3g down so realeasing 
it is a good move and it will also be ready to go on the 4s on friday which 
by the way is already in the mail to come customers.
