Hi Cheryl. TextEdit will work well with the Refreshabraille 18, as will pretty much any app that works well with VoiceOver. You can customize braille keyboard commands just like you do VoiceOver keyboard commands, so that should also help you. The biggest reason I recommend Macs to some people is because of the great braille support. You pretty much do not have to interact with the keyboard once you customize the braille commands. I do find though that the USB connection makes things move a bit faster than bluetooth. Other than that, I love the RB 18 on the Mac. It has a couple of hardware flaws, but those aren't related to your question, so I'll leave them be unless you want that input as well.
