[mac4theblind] Re: IPad2

Well, I guess Joe is a s good as anything but the name was Bubba. Now I
agree and have a IPad myself just to let you know. And no I don't just flick
around on the screen but if you do this is ok, as whatever is comfortable to
that person. Now as of the 1 gb of ram this is true it is rumor. But the I
pad has always ran behind the iPhone in hardware . For example they gave the
ipad1 no camera and less processer and less ram than the iphone4. Then the
ipad2 came out with a camera and it was still running behind the iphone4 on
this they gave it a faster processer and booted the ram to the same as the
iphone4 to 512 gb. The ipad1 only had 256 mb of ram. So with this I would
think the hardware changes on the iPhone with the new processer and the all
new reworked camera and with the new talking commands that the iphone4s only
has it would justify the extra 512 mb of ram bring it to 1gb. Now yes this
is speculation, as well as my thoughts. I myself gave my iPad to my wife as
she is a seeing person and got more out of it then me! Also I found that the
iPad was not that easily toted around as the iPhone was and just did not nee
the display size as I could not see any how. Also navigation on the iPhone
can be done just as you say on the iPad. I have plans on getting the new
iphone4s as well as the Ipad3 when it comes out if it has a much better
camera as this would be what my wife would want one with a camera but she
wants to wait and see if the new ipad3 has a lot better camera. So this is
my thoughts Jo .

Joe,

Just a couple of corrections here.

No one knows how much RAM is in the iPhone 4S. There has been
speculation?strictly speculation?that it *might* include 1GB, but that is by
no means definitive, and we won't know for sure until iFixIt or a similar
site does a tear down after the iPhone arrives.

The iPad's larger screen is a huge benefit to users, whether you can see it
or not. I know many totally blind users who find enormous benefits to the
iPad's larger display, myself included. Faster access to more content
increases efficiency and enjoyment of the iOS experience.

Some users are having a hard time breaking out of the mindset that screen
readers of the past have put them in, where everything must be painstakingly
navigated to in a linear fashion. Sighted users haven't had to do this for
decades, thanks to point-and-click inventions like the mouse and trackpad.
We, as visually impaired users, finally have an extremely similar tool for
navigation at our disposal in iOS, and I'm frankly surprised at the numbers
of users who still insist upon navigating linearly through everything on the
screen.

That isn't to say that you can't use an iOS device by flicking through
everything on the screen, but it is certainly not the primary way it was
intended to be used.
