Well, that article only makes it all the more clear how little you actually understand what I'm talking about. You are confused because you think an IPod Touch is like an IPod classic or an IPod shuffle. I'll admit that the names are confusing. But an IPod Touch runs the same operating system as an IPhone and runs on very similar hardware. Apple may stop making mp3 players. But they are not going to stop making IPod Touches. An IPod Touch is not an mp3 player. It is a PDA like an IPad. You can read your email, browse the web, take photographs, etc. Just like an IPad. Its just smaller.

Really, as far as I know, the only thing an IPad can do that an IPod Touch cannot is GPS.

Here ya go. and the'res other proof as well, but we'll see in september what happens.

http://www.techspot.com/news/45658-apple-may-discontinue-two-ipod-models-or-entire-line-soon.html If apple's whole ipod line is axed then teh only option will have to be a bt receiver in the ipad or what ever will come out in september.

Take care.

I think you are confusing the iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. I doubt Apple is going to stop making the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch has a touch screen just like an iPad and runs IOS 5.1.1 same as the IpAd and iPhone.

Besides, how can I possibly credit such a bague reference? In my opinion, it's rude for you to say my proposal is moot on the basis of what is at best speculation and at worst a figment of your imagination. I'm trying to accomplish something that might help a lot of blind people and you're disputing it based on some vague memory of a blog post you might have read.

A blog article I have since lost. and it makes sence. We dont' really use our ipods anymore. Everyone now uses eather an iphone or an ipad. Well, in that case you can maybe ask that a gps blootooth receiver be in the ipads since they can I guess be used for that as well. Mount yoru ipad to the dash of your car and away you go.

I thought they were slowly getting rid of the ipod models. If that's the case then your point is now moot.

Take care.

Well, its not directly an accessibility issue -- unless you include cost as part of accessibility. If they included a GPS bluetooth stack in IOS, it would bring down the cost of a talking GPS by more than half. A Trekker or an iPhone (including the boice phone plan) is going to cost you $600 - $700. An iPod Touch is only $200.

I think it is not an accessibility issue but a good idea for them to do it or for someone to find a way to use the current bt module in ios for this purpose. After all, if it can be used for headphones and keyboards, why not gps receivers.

I wonder if a gps receiver could be designed with an app which had the support for it.

All,

I think we should politely ask Apple to include a bluetooth GPS stack in IOS. If you could pair a bluetooth GPS with an iPod, you could get a talking GPS for under $200. That's cheaper even than the Kapten Plus used to be.

I think we should all email accessibility@xxxxxxxxx to suggest this. What do you think?
