In I O S 5, if you have an IPhone... not an IPod, or IPad, but very very
specifically, an I? Phone! You will notice that there is no icon anywhere
for Facetime. That's normal. What they've apparently done is they've
integrated the app into your phone app. So, here's the deal:
If you're in an active call, go to the bottom right corner and double tap to
hide your key pad if it's up. Like look at your 6 buttons in the center of
the screen where the pad used to be. One of them says face time button.
Hit it, and your call will be merged into an FT call. Symple as that.
Make sure to go under settings from your home screen, and then to Facetime
and reactivate it, if you wanna use it, as I do.
If you want to call someone from Facetime, they first need to be added to
your contacts. Then go into your phone, or contacts app, whichever you
prefer, it makes entirely no difference, then double tap the person you wish
to Facetime. Then, flick down to the very bottom and you'll see a Facetime
button. Double tap, and then choose the contact detail, if there be
multiple, and your call will be placed. I don't think that you can make a
Facetime call become a voice only call, so no dice there... only the other
way around.
If you're in a voice call or another FT call, and you get a Facetime call,
you'll get a call waiting beep, but I've not found a way to answer it. As
soon as you hit accept, or you slide to answer in the case of the lock
screen, both calls will drop.
I assume this problem will eventually get fixed, I hope.
Finally, your Facetime calls will show up under the recent tab which is the
2nd tab in from the left bottom corner in the phone app. In other words,
you're not gonna have an actual FT app any longer. All your call logs will
be now included with the recent call log tab of the phone app. They've
smished them all together. kind a nice in my view.
Remember, IPod Touch users, and IPad users, both 3 and 4, as well as IPad 1
and 2, and the new IPad 3 when it comes out: you won't have this issue.
You'll have an FT icon. This only applies to IPhone 3GS, IPhone 4, and
IPhone 4S's.
Chris.
