I think the same applies to the M-16 crowd. Something about long-term exposure to guns, I suppose. However, from what I can tell, there are two sets of objections. The first, coming from more secularized Muslims, is the objection to stereotyping Muslims as murdering terrorists. Given circumstances, I can appreciate this sensitivity but I don't think it terribly helpful raising a stink about cartoons. The other objection, coming from the AK-toting crowd as well as non-violent yet religiously conservative Muslims, pertains to the Islamic prohibition regarding images of Mohammad. In my opinion, the cartoons are in poor taste and worse, aren't funny. Their only purpose seems to lie in provoking Muslims, and I don't see anything clever about that.
