"And you, Simon, how do you feel about your government using biological
weapons (smallpox) during the French and Indian War?"
I was pissed, Eric, really pissed, I mean...actually, thinking about it, I
wasn't there at the time and wasn't able to vote them out.
The trouble is that you seem to be judging others by your own standards. If
and when the government does something bad and stupid, you'll find the Brits
don't mind protesting, don't mind slagging off those in charge. Our
government isn't sacred, the Prime Minister isn't infallible and those doing
the protesting aren't labelled as treasonous enemies.
But back to the biologicals. Are you suggesting that the circumstances are
somewhow comparable? On the one side your government could be financing the
same brand of terrorists responsible for 9/11. That would seriously piss me
off. Conversely you suggest that the British used smallpox as a weapon in
the eighteenth century. That may have been the case, but don't expect me to
get angry about it.

"My radical pyrrhonist moment questioned the utility of being on a side.
Just kill enemies. Forget good and evil. Thought it might open a moral
discussion rather than a political one."
My apologies, it just seemed to me that an avenue opened up. I would agree,
but wasn't it Bush who declared right at the start that it was a war of good
vs evil. You can't renage on that now, even if, as Hersch suggests, Senetor
Palpatine is really a Sith Lord and the Trade Federation is receiving funds
from the Senate.
Pull down your mask, you're a storm trooper in disguise!

channelling cash to Sunni terrorist organisations?
Not sure I buy into Hersch on this one, especially since his sources are
always "ex" something or other, ex-CIA, ex-government. But assume it's
true, in which case it's stupid. Blowback is too likely. And the Sunni
terrorists are canny, so unless we're going to target and exterminate the
vast majority of them at once, they'll get the advantage from it.
And you, Simon, how do you feel about your government using biological
weapons (smallpox) during the French and Indian War? Sir Jeffrey Amherst,
I think...
