[lit-ideas] Re: the standard for higher standards

>>The Covert War'

Evil old Darth Cheney said it would be a "covert war," a "war conducted in the shadows," back in November 2001. That's fine with me. Err on the side of killing them all. Doesn't matter what the PR flaks call it.

>>and just in case you're not understanding the situation ...

That made me laugh. As if you do! Sure we can all read Hersch et alii, and do our best to have informed opinions. Understand the situation? Think not. That's the covert part of "Covert War."

On the other hand, to agree with your point, if H is right, and the situation is to be taken at face value, it strikes me as a stupid move that will have long-term negative consequences.

Simon, you seem to want me to express outrage. Maybe you misunderstand me. I really don't want to "kill them all" out of revenge. I want to "kill them all" so 9/11 doesn't happen again. I endorse a classical solution: do to them what the Romans did to the Carthaginians at the end of the Punic Wars. Then salt their fields.

If X is a stupid move, I oppose it. Maybe the next President will get to kill them all. Or the one after that. And there are bound to be lots of stupid moves I oppose -- big deal! -- but it will take a total defeat of radical Islamic terrorists to stop this ... or the end of oil.
