My claim (the claim; it isn't unique to me) is that to
defend an action of the US (UK, etc.) by pointing to
an action of Al Qaeda/the Taliban is to violate the
claim of the US (UK, etc.) to be better than them.

Let me give a simple hypothetical example.  Should a
US town behead an adulteress in a public square, it
would be no defence to say "that's what they do in
Saudi".
