[lit-ideas] Re: okay, one last time

Thanks everyone for the kind words...

It's really a personal issue with me. I'm getting less and less tolerant of becoming such a slave to these policy decisions of email companies which affect directly what I can send and receive on a regular basis.

I have about 7 email accounts, including the big three (free ones) Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail... For some reason, mainly due to most popmail ISP's gradual implementation of spambots, filters, etc. over the past few years -- and consequent filtering, expunging, mail-bouncing, unsubscribing -- what was once avid [passive] membership in about 30 or 40 listserves has dwindled down to serious interest in about 5. And that number is falling so that one day soon I just won't bother. I can see myself only reading and perhaps writing something every few months if it really gets to me [positively or negatively] -- but then, I fear I'll have reached [perceptible to others] full curmudgeonhood, prematurely of course, and so maybe I'll not bother once again.

Perhaps somewhat foolishly, as someone who is always concerned with style on par with substance, I really do miss the freedoms and comfort associated with my normal mail client when composing in Gmail or Hotmail or whatever, so that the "Paul" that has been a member of the club doesn't come through in the same way. This is my primary grievance and, until I find a decent way to be myself while being constrained, I will feel just that: constrained. In the end it IS economics, even if only in my little ole world.

pausingly,
P
