[lit-ideas] Re: comments the DEMs must defend

Once again again so as not

To assemble another fallacy

Assuming anyone here

Might know the difference

Between Islam and Islamism . . .

Islam is the whole thing,

The Civilization. Just as here

In the West the West

Is the whole thing.

Militant Islam is that part

Of the Islamic Civilization

That is engaged in Militant

Activity either opposing

The US & the West

Or disruptive in such a way

As to affect and threaten

The allies of the US.

The Rogue State once led

By Saddam Hussein

Was the Most Militant of all,

The most threatening,

The most dangerous,

The most disruptive

State in the Middle East.

Surely it was good

To end it before

It transmogrified even

Further. I wish the Left

Could manage to quit

Quibbling about dotting

"I's" and crossing "t's"

Of an International arrangement

Developed at the end

Of World War II and admit

They wish the US defeated,

Or maybe just this US led by Bush,

And these troops, and these issues;

So that we can be knocked down

Several rungs and maybe finally agree

To accept the leadership of the UN

Led by France and Germany

And Russia. If only he had survived

And we continued to war with him

In the air until he finally managed

To hit some of our planes we might

Have kept on spending billions

To protect the Kurds and Shiites

While he worked the French and Germans

And Russians until he got what he wanted

And the Left got what it wanted,

And France and Germany and

Russia got what they wanted and

America was properly scourged and

All ears turned to the piping call

Of the world-peace-piper gathering

Everyone into his perfect Land of Love.

Lawrence

<<Okay, time to fess up. It was me. I did it. I approved the war against
Militant Islam. It was the right thing to do and still is. It's not like
I was having a bad day. Really put thought into it. Weighed the
alternatives. Pondered. Paced a bit. And I approved it. Big stamp with
red ink pressing out the word APPROVED inside a rectangular red ink
frame. That was me.>>

Damn, and I thought it was *me*. Everything from the expulsion of Adam &
Eve from the garden to world hunger is because of me, my children will tell
you. (I've tried the "having a bad day excuse, but the response seems to
be, 'how many bad days can one woman have??). Oh, I mean, I'm so glad it
wasn't me!

What I really mean is, evil and sadistic and vile as Hussein was, he neither
represented, assisted, nor sponsored Militant Islam. Could we please try to
keep that fundamental difference straight if we're to discuss any of the
incredible ME confusion with any clarity at all?

No one pushed Shock & Awe on Baghdad because they thought NYC or CA or WA or
anywhere else in the continental US would be safer from Islamic Militants
(Militant Islamics?) as a result. But the administration *did* take
advantage of a) the incredible fear factor immediately following 9/11 and b)
the overwhelming ignorance on the part of the U.S. population to invade a
country for its own profit (political and financial profit) and in so doing
strengthened Militant Islam hugely. Dem's and Rep's alike were fear-blinded
sheep, grazing, led to the slaughter of so many, manipulated.

Just my two cents' worth.
