[lit-ideas] assumption

I was driving down the road yesterday and I saw a sign that said (or
so I thought) "BLOG for Sale" in front of a metal stamping plant which
had apparently shut down. For 5 seconds, I was thinking "what a funny
thing to advertise" until I realized it had actually said "BLDG for
Sale" and my hurtling past it at almost 25 miles an hour had
confounded my senses which are obviously heightened to read
internetese instead of previously common abbreviations. It's funny --
in this case, 'peculiar' and 'ha ha' -- how we misread things in these
crazy brains of ours.

Which brings me to the 'lit' part of this post: another book
recommendation I could give would be Jill Bolte Taylor's book "My
Stroke of Insight" in which she (a neuroanatomist by trade) recollects
her own stroke that happened in the late '90s, both as it happened and
through her 8 year recovery and thereafter. Her way of talking about
the brain is quite amazing and really lays bare as to what is really
going on 'upstairs'.
