Further implicatures. Two anthropologists. Female anthropologist (SHE), male
anthropologist (HE). They are conducting an emic-emic ethnomethodological
analysis of upskirting in religious temples. Their operational definition is:
agent a upskirts agent b iff b is not cognisable that a is upskirting b.
For other cases they use 'upskirting' -- in scare quotes, i.e. for where b
is cognisant of the fact that a is a voyeur. (see Scruton, "Sexual desire" --
drawing from Grice).
SHE: You weren't upskirting the Daoist master. (+> whereas that's what the
protocol had you as precisely doing)
HE: What d'you mean? I was! (I _am_ a serious anthropologist)
SHE: You call _that_ upskirting?! He was showing you _off_!
Anyway, don't get me wrong: I'm fascinated by the imperalist birt of social
field anthropology. One of my favourite books in my library is "A history of
anthropology" in the Benn's sixpence library -- with engravings of all those
bearded men. No, I don't mean the natives -- the Brits!
Cheers,
JL
