[lit-ideas] Re: We ex-Marines

Hi Austin,

When we met, if I recall correctly, one of your biggest concerns was nuclear
war. I can't recall what specifically concerned you at the time, but you
were pessimistic about our ability to survive as a species. You thought
that we couldn't go on just having these nuclear weapons without eventually
using them, and not just using them in a tactical way, but in an apocalyptic
one. I wonder if you retain that belief and if so what you think about
Iran's desire to obtain nuclear weapons.

I'm on the list too, although I seldom post. I think Lawrence and I are the

two ex-Marines.

Since leaving the United States Marine Corps, it would seem that Lawrence

and I have gone in rather different directions, as I have become a Quaker

and Lawrence has not.

He and I have met in the very flesh, and we have been polite with one

another. I don't find it difficult to get Lawrence's points -- since I have

a vivid memory of what my mind was like when I thought exactly the way he

still does.
