M.C. Speaking of Tiresias, saw an interesting adaptation of Euripides'=20=

Bacchae the other night at the Lyric Hammersmith in London, with Emma=20
Rice directing Cronwall's Kneehigh Theatre players. The comedic aspect=20=

was played up, with the Chorus consisting of a bunch of beefy=20
Englishmen dancing around in tutus, strumming electric guitars, and=20
caterwauling such tunes as "it's a bad idea to keep a god in jail". My=20=

companion (who, on this occasion, happened to be my wife) thought there=20=

were too many slapstick routines and music-hall numbers, but I thought=20=

the play was redeemed by a fine perfomance by the Hungarian actor=20
Robert Luckskay as a Mick Jagger-style Dionysius - watch for the moment=20=

when he squat-jumps from the ground to the top of a table, in=20
high-heels - and Eva Magyar's athletic and gymnastic performance as=20
Agave.

        Best, Mike.
