You have a really nice way with words, Lawrence. I almost always enjoy your posts, even though, as you know, I hardly agree with anything you write. But your constant characterization of the Left as America haters and Saddam lovers is really getting tedious. No one here has ever said poor little Saddam was a good guy. It's possible that the Leftists love America in a more profound way than the Rightists. The Leftists want America to live up to her own advertising. The Leftists expect moral leadership from the government. The Leftists want to be proud of America. They just don't think that turning away from the hard-won norms of world law and invading a sovereign country that did nothing to you until after you did something to them is anything to be proud of. Running torture camps and 'disappearing' people is nothing to be proud of. Sending young Americans into a hell-hole on the basis of lies and deceit is nothing to be proud of. Merrily spending money even your great-grandchildren will not be able to pay back is nothing to be proud of. Many Leftists cry over the ruin of America's good name in a callous pursuit of gain and power. Many Leftists cry over an America that can't tear itself away from Rosie and Donald long enough to notice the death and destruction wrought in their name. Many Leftists cry. The Rightists in the White House see the world as ugly and bad. Shame on America for giving them (or letting them steal) the power to make the world over in that image. It will take good men a generation or more to right what they have wrought.

Tis a sad thing and who can account for it; there's so many that do it? You can curse our nation and no one cares. curse our leaders and people cheer for you. Criticize our morals and everyone agrees. Our business men are beneath contempt. In fact no one pays much attention if you do any of these things, but say one little criticizing word about Saddam Hussein and . . . well you can see what happened to me. First it was Julie getting after me, and then Ursula, and then Mike, . . .
