I would like to argue that "He dresses like a girl" is  cancellable. Proof:

He dresses  like a boy.
B: He _is_ a  boy
That's why I said: he dresses  like a boy.

On the other hand, it's more difficult to cancel the 'as  if':

He dresses as if he is a  girl

i.e.
If he were a girl (but he ain't) he  would dress like that.
